240MPH RECORD BREAKER IN KOENIGSEGG ONE:1

Oli Webb was at Bruntingthorpe in the UK on May 21st to get behind the wheel of a very special car; the Koenigsegg One:1.
The $6 million hypercar is one of only 6 in the world and is owned by the team behind the BHP Project, an online presence that represents an incredible collection of sports cars. Oli and the BHP Project teamed up at Vmax200, the UK’s leading top-speed driving event, to try and break the 229mph record that has stood since 2013 when a tuned Porsche 911 tore up the 1.4 mile stretch of tarmac, albeit with a mile long run up which is no longer used.
The One:1 was a returning challenger after attempting to break the record in 2015, only for wheel alignment issues to scupper that attempt at “just” 225mph. This time out, with World Endurance Championship ace Oli Webb at the wheel the scene was set for a new record, and so it was.
On his first run Oli hit 230mph before a highly tuned and stripped out Porsche 911 put its nose in front with 231mph just a few minutes later. Before Oli could put in another attempt, the heavens opened leaving the track too damp to mount a serious challenge. A short sun dance later, the clouds parted and the track began to dry giving Oli the opportunity to warm up the Koenigsegg by taking spectators for passenger rides, during which he astonishingly hit 235mph.
With time still left in the day on a slightly damp surface, Oli dropped off his last passenger and lined up for one last full run and to the delight of those present, went even quicker to reach 240mph, a full 11mph faster than the old record at the start of the day. A delighted Webb commented;
“What a day, when the rain came I thought our chance to beat to the Porsche 911 might have gone so we got lucky when things cleared up and we were able to get more running in. It’s an absolutely astonishing car and pushing it to a new record at 240mph felt incredible. Next time we’re going to head abroad to somewhere with more reliable weather to see if we can go even faster.”
This is the fastest that any car has ever travelled at Bruntingthorpe and is a record that could stand for a very, very long time to come.
