Webb Joins the MSA Elite for Debut Formula 3 Season
21nd February 2010Webb Joins the MSA Elite for Debut Formula 3 Season
With just over 40 days to go until the start of the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Championship, Manchester’s Oli Webb is in the final phase of preparations for the most important season of his life.
Webb has been selected to join the prestigious Motor Sports Association (MSA) Elite scheme*, which assists with the training a selected group of 10 of the best, young race and rally drivers each year. The talented ex-Formula Renault driver is now part of Team UK, and participated in a two-day workshop, which furthered Webb’s knowledge in some of most important areas of higher level motorsport.
The two-day workshop was overseen by National Race Coach and Le Mans driver, David Brabham and National Rally Coach, Mark Higgins. A number of key experts ran sessions during the two days, with some practical and theoretical coaching on a number of disciplines. Webb was given advice, coaching and information on physical training, in-car telemetry, sports psychology, safety technology and intense media training for TV interviews.
The workshop has formed a part of Webb’s preparations for the 30-race 2010 season, which have been in progress since the chequered flag was waved in the final race of 2009. Webb feels he has never been better prepared for a season of racing, commenting: “This winter has been incredibly exciting because stepping up to F3 is a huge stage in my career and this has given me all the motivation I need in my winter training. I have never been in better shape in my life, and it was fantastic to be trained by the guys who trained Jenson Button in his World Championship year. I have been down to Fortec regularly to ensure I am up to speed with preparation in the workshop, and I can’t wait to get on the grid at my home circuit, Oulton Park.”Webb’s next test will take place at the Snetterton race circuit in Norfolk on the 24th February, where he will continue his preparations for the first race in April. Webb has already topped the time sheets in testing and feels the new car suits his driving style, commenting: “I really enjoyed Formula Renault last year and had some great results, but I feel the Formula 3 car suits my style much better. I have never felt so immediately at home with the way a car works and that has shown in my testing times.”Webb will start his 2010 season in earnest at the first race weekend at the Oulton Park circuit in Cheshire, on the 3-5th April. Webb would welcome speaking to companies interested in supporting an already successful British driver and may come to an Official test and pre season press day on the 10th March at Oulton park, if you are interested you can contact Oliver on info@oliwebbracing.com.
