Snetterton Test Wets Webb’s Appetite

Manchester-based Formula 3 driver, Oliver Webb continued his intensive testing regime in the build-up to his first season in the Cooper Tires British Formula 3 International Series. The ex-Formula Renault driver has been consistently in the top three quickest drivers during testing.

Webb was at Snetterton testing new specification aerodynamic and mechanical parts for his Dallara-built Formula 3 car. The MSA Elite Driver is racing for the first time in a series where the cars are not one standard design, with variations allowed in bodywork design, engine and suspension. The potential for development means that the North-West born driver is adapting to testing new parts, back-to-back with old parts while making himself at home in the faster and more powerful F3 car.

Unpredictable and wet weather at Snetterton hampered efforts to put in identical laps to test new parts, but despite this impediment, Webb set some of the fastest times of the day. During the first session, Webb set the best time, despite not aiming for the qualifying style laps, with development being the top priority

Webb has been pleased with testing and his preparations for the 2010 season, commenting: “The priority at Snetterton was testing the new parts on the car and that has been a new experience for me. In all the series I have raced in before the car has been a fixed specification with only setting to change, F3 is very different. I am enjoying testing new parts and feeling the difference it makes to the car, this experience will be vital as I progress. To be right up there with the quickest drivers, especially the guys who have done a year already, is exactly where I want to be. This is one of the most competitive grids ever in Formula 3, which makes this the series I need to be racing in.”

Webb will be hosting a media day at his local circuit of Oulton Park where he will also make his F3 debut on 3rd April.
